The Victoria Fountain described by architectural historian Peter Pearson in his book ‘Kingstown’ as: “a beautiful monument, a defenseless symbol of the bygone age”, was erected to commemorate Queen Victoria’s visit to Dún Laoghaire in 1900.
Every time i see it I notice additional detail such as “Keep The Pavement Dry”
This small decorative fountain was vandalised in 1982 but it was completely restored in 2002, I wonder if many who pass be actually realise what it is?
During her 63 year reign Queen Victoria visited Ireland 4 times. The current monarch visited Ireland last year.
